How Great Thou Art is a hymn based on a traditional Swedish melody and a poem written by Carl Boberg (1859–1940) in Sweden in 1885, and has since seen published recordings exceed 1,800 versions. It was voted the United Kingdom's favorite hymn by BBC's Songs of Praise, and was ranked second (after Amazing Grace) on the list of the favorite hymns of all time in a survey by Christianity Today magazine in 2001.
