Holy, Holy, Holy written by the Anglican bishop Reginald Heber (1783–1826). Its lyrics speak specifically of the Holy Trinity, having been first written for use on Trinity Sunday. The opening line (Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!) references both Isaiah 6:3 and Revelation 4:8, and mirrors the opening line of the Sanctus hymn that has been part of Christian liturgies since the generation immediately following the Apostles. John Bacchus Dykes composed the tune Nicaea for this hymn in 1861, as a tribute to the First Council of Nicaea, which formalized the doctrine of the Trinity in AD 325.
